Pre-School Mini Olympics Photos

Our pre-school held it's mini-olympics on the 28th of August and invited Pooh-Bear's Preschool and Sunbeams to join in the fun. A big thank you to Tessa Elliot for these lovely photos showing what happened.

And the biggest highlight of the day (at least for the children) was receiving their medal.... chocolate! yummy!

Mini-Olympics @ Kings School

First off, apologies for not getting these photos up earlier... I've had them for a week or more but it's been hectic. So here are some lovely pictures kindly snapped by Mrs Swanepoel of the children competing against Kings School. It sure looked like it was a great day.

Started the day off with instructions and prayer
Relay races
Long Jump
Brr... it was cold... even the teachers felt it!
Turbo Javelin
High Jump... and no it doesn't matter how you get over so long as you do!

Not sure who won what but I don't think that mattered... the children had fun interacting with those from Kings School and being able to each have a turn at each event.

Book Sale

Mrs Koekemoer is holding a book sale in the library. There are LOTS of great books to read... and for all ages.... so get there QUICK and grab up an exciting book.

Remember the last day for the sale is Monday 31 August.

Donations of books to the library are also greatly appreciated.

Casual Day

This is voluntary. Children who purchase the casual day stickers before Thursday 3 September may wear civvies on Friday 4th September. Stickers are available from Mrs Bowen at a cost of R10. All proceeds go towards Casa da Sol School for disabled children.

The message in this year's campaign is very clear:

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear Parents,

Due to the huge increase of Swine Flu cases in the school, the management team have decided to close the school from Thursday 20th August until Tuesday 25th August 2009, to minimise the further spread of this flu strain. Five days is the incubation period of Swine Flu.

The aftercare will also need to be closed. The council meeting and the inter-school athletics will continue as normal.

Last week we had 97 absentees, and this week Monday and Tuesday alone we have had 62 children away from school. We have seventeen children and two teachers that have been confirmed cases of Swine Flu. This increase in numbers has taken place over seven school days.

Could you please help in ensuring that your children build up their immune system by going to bed on time, eating healthy foods and developing good hygienic habits.

We are well aware that this will be very inconvenient for some of you but we have needed to make this decision for the benefit of all families.

Yours Sincerely,

BASTIAEN NOREL

Inter-House Athletics

Having had the sports day rained out on Saturday we couldn't have wished for a nicer day today... the sun is out, there is no wind and it's the perfect day to be having Inter-House Athletics.. Go Team. Who are you shouting for? Samson, David or Caleb? Let's see who will be the winning team at the end of the day.

First things first was the march past by all the athletes (as I overhead one of the parents say... it looked like the Olympics!)

And then it was on to the races... first up was the Grade 00s and Grade 0s... don't they look so cute... Line Up, On your marks, Get Set, GOOOOOOOO.....
And in amongst all the running there was also the field events....

Javelin

High Jump

Long Jump

Shot Put

And some more running... with a few of the winners

And in amongst the children were the Grade 7s in their fancy house shirts (back and front views)

Well done to Mrs van Vuuren for her organisation, training of the athletes and the whole team for the great job they did.... scores to follow.
